We are pleased to report that the Local NHS Heroes Campaign was a huge success. More than 4,000 individual items were processed and a total of 335 individual care packs were made up for Abingdon Hospital and the county’s ambulance teams.
Also benefitting were local community district nurses, occupational therapists and physios based at Wallingford Hospital. A donation of over 1000 items was also made to the Oxford Health Charity to go into their own care packages for community teams, as well as food banks and victims of domestic abuse.
Abingdon Hospital received 150 packs and 100 went to the Patient Transport Service at South Central Ambulance Service. Boxes were also made up for the village’s postal staff, refuse collection teams and milk delivery staff.
Twelve boxes of additional items were donated to Abingdon Hospital and the ambulance service containing tea, coffee and laundry tablets. Of the 4,000 items donated, 1,700 came through the Amazon Wishlist. More than 100 people visited the donation hub at the Village Hall yesterday (Sunday 10th May).
In addition, hundreds of individual cakes, bakes, flapjacks, biscuits and brownies will be going to health workers. One of the lead members of the volunteer team, Emma Newman, praised workers and individuals for their work and contributions.
“Thanks to the enormous generosity of our community we are also able to support other organisations with a further 300 items that we plan to donate to a local food bank. A further 400 items will be going to organisations supporting people who have suffered from domestic abuse.”
“I would also like to pay tribute to our team of Land Girls and Land Boys and their families who worked tirelessly in the Village Hall and the behind the scenes team. Thanks are also due to individuals who donated gifts in person and online, Waitrose stores, The Big Small Shop, Smurfit Kappa, RajaPack, Minutemen Press Oxford, Albry Printing and Vinyl Banner Printing.”
Included in every pack were handmade thank you cards from villagers and a postcard with information with details of a website FirstYou.org that provides emotional support resources to NHS teams. Lucia Volpe designed the posters used in marketing the village campaign.
