SAINT MARY'S PARISH CHURCH

The Parish of St Mary Long Wittenham with St Peter Little Wittenham is part of the Bridge Group of parishes which also includes St Michael and All Angels, Clifton Hampden and St Paul, Culham. The Bridge Group is part of the Dorchester Team which includes the magnificent Dorchester Abbey, and the parishes of Warborough, Stadhampton, Berinsfield, Drayton St Leonard, Marsh Baldon, Toot Baldon and Nuneham Courtenay. In turn, the Team is part of the Deanery  of Aston and Cuddesdon, the Archdeaconry of Oxfordshire and the Diocese of Oxford.

Who’s who ...
The Revd Canon Sue Booys is the Team Rector and has overall responsibility for all the churches in the Team and is based in the Rectory at Dorchester. She is also Area Dean for the Aston and Cuddesdon Deanery.

Revd Anne Ilsley, Associate Team Vicar, is the House-for-Duty priest for the Bridge Group. She lives in The Vicarage in Long Wittenham and works two days a week and Sundays in the parishes.

Revd David Haylett is a non-stipendiary (unpaid) Team Minister who spends about two days a week and Sundays on parish work and services in the Team, mostly in the Bridge Group.

The clergy are supported by three churchwardens and members of the Parochial Church Council (PCC)

Parish magazine
The parish magazine is called The Bridge and is published ten times a year. As well as a letter from a member of the clergy, the times and places for the services for the month and notices about other church activities and events, there are gardening tips, health advice and lots of interesting articles to keep you up to date about what’s going on in the local villages. There is also a useful range of adverts for local businesses, goods for sale and services.

Children’s church
Children’s church for 4-14 year-olds, meets every third Sunday during the 10am service at St Mary’s. Activity mornings and a Summer Club are also held.

The Friends
The Friends of St Mary and the Friends of St Peter support the work of the churches by raising money to help look after the fabric of the beautiful buildings.
