The term of office for the current Parish Council started in May 2011 when elections took place to form a Council of 7 members to act for the next 4 years. The Parish Council is an elected tier of government which serves only the parish of Long Wittenham. It oversees the upkeep and maintenance of the village, is involved in ad hoc projects such as the recent redevelopment of Acklings recreation ground and has a statutory right to be consulted on all planning applications in its area. It is often consulted on other matters, having representatives on local committees. The Parish Council plays a vital part in improving community well-being and providing better services at a local level, representing the interests of the community which it serves and is an effective lobby group influencing other decision makers.
