Athletics Club Plans

Long Wittenham Athletics Club has outlined ambitious plans for future developments on Bodkin’s Field, including an expansion of the existing clubhouse and long-term plans for tennis courts and adult exercise equipment.

The club wants to enlarge the club house with improved changing rooms, a new referee’s room, women’s match officials’ room, women’s toilets and a toilet for disabled people.

There are also plans to start up a youth team from next season which it is hoped might encourage youngsters from the village.

The club’s Social and Development Secretary Steve Bolton said: “The Coronavirus lockdown protocols and national tier systems are hitting us financially and we are digging into our savings”.

Coronavirus issues permitting, the club has a series of events planned for next summer. They include two live music sessions, one with a village-based band, a charity Beagle dog treasure hunt and a Rounders tournament.  A bouncy castle will be available to hire for young children’s birthday parties.
