Bollywood Was In Town

Wittenham WI 70th Birthday celebrations kicked off in style on Friday 12th October, when the Village Hall morphed into an outpost of India, with wall-hangings of saris and silk.

A group of villagers, young and old, learned and watched all kinds of “moves”, and joined  in an energetic dance session delightfully led by Kally Peigne from the Betty Bloom School of Dance.  Colourful costumes completed the picture, and Indian-style refreshments, washed down with Indian beer or mango juice were to follow; if you heard the music and laughter, you may have wondered what was going on!  First prize in the Raffle was a lunch kindly donated by the Vine & Spice.

This will be the start of a year to remember.  Please don’t forget, ladies, that the WI is open to women of all ages, and the events reflect what members would like to do.  There are plans for a henna workshop to follow next year, for example, and courses at Denman College, the WI further education college, include gin-tasting.  Your WI is what you make it!
