Children Design Speed Posters

Pupils from Long Wittenham Primary school are playing their part in the drive to cut vehicle speeds through the village.  More than seventy children took part in a painting competition to design distinctive posters urging drivers to reduce speed and stick to the 30mph restriction.

Head teacher Alison Bellingham and parish councillors Gordon Rogers, Steve Brown and Ian Penberth sifted through the drawings and chose eleven entries which will be reproduced on tough “dibond” material.  The posters will be fixed to wooden poles or existing signs and placed in key areas near to the school, Didcot Road, Saxons Heath and Little Wittenham Road.

The winning entries were painted by: Poppy Bannister and Tyler Davis (aged 5), Rosemary Parker and Bibi Bennett (6), Sam Caw (7), Ava Whalley (8), Daisey Oosthuizen, Lucas Clamp and William Osmond (9) and ten-year-olds Abigail Friend and Charlotte Challenger.  All the winners were presented with painting gifts.
