Clifton Hampden Bridge Closures Update

Residents will be aware that two separate closures of the Clifton Hampden Bridge are scheduled to start on 20th February and continue through March as originally detailed here.

Signs have appeared either side of the bridge which suggest that the first closure on 20th February will only be for two days.  The Parish Council has been in contact with the Traffic Regulations Team at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) seeking clarification.

The OCC officer for the project has responded as follows:

The first closure, Ref T8356, is from 20th February 2021 to 1st March 2021 for vegetation clearance work.  However, we will be aiming to complete the work on the weekend of 20th and 21st February.  The road will still be open during weekdays.  If it is not possible to complete the work on that weekend, then we will complete it the following weekend which is 27th and 28th February.  The hours for this work will be 7am to 7pm.

The second closure, Ref T8291, will operate from 8th March 2021 to 5th April 2021 for traffic signal and embankment repairs.  This closure will be from 9:30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

For more information, contact the Traffic Regulations Team on 0345 310 1111, quoting the approriate reference above.

I assume we can park in the car park opposite the Barley Mow and walk over the bridge as we did last time they did this?

  2. Liz Nightingale says:

This is going to make leaving Wittenham “interesting” considering the Sires Hill closures. I hope Culham bridges road does not flood again!

  3. Kathy Carter says:

I wonder if they have updated the diversion route. I ask as during all closures of Clifton Hampden Bridge the diversions have used Sires Hill as part of that diversion.

  4. Bill Symonds says:

Can the P.C. please confirm if the bridge will be closed for the second week-end or has the work been completed over the first week-end. Thanks Bill

  5. Admin says:

We have contacted the OCC officer in charge of the project. This is his response: “We have not been made aware of any issues so we can safely assume that the vegetation clearance work was completed last weekend.”
