Council Thanks Former Chairman

Parish Councillors acknowledged the service of former chairman Gordon Rogers at a short ceremony held at the Westfield Road play area recently.

Three trees have been planted, one of which marks the service Mr Rogers has given to the council.  He was chairman for five years until May this year and in total had served on the council for eleven years.

The new council chairman Steve Brown said the council owed a large debt to Mr Rogers who had served the council and village for many years.  He said the tree was a symbol of his service.

The three trees were planted earlier this year and have been watered regularly by Westfield Road residents Joe and Emma Rudman.

So pleased the village has acknowledged your service . At times a thankless task fighting the system which often seems to work against Parishes but great when you achieve. Enjoy your well earned retirement.

    Yes, I completely agree!

Thank you Gordon for the tireless way you assisted me personally in my endeavors to have ‘Memorial Hazel Trees’ planted by “Earth Trust” in the ‘Little Wittenham Wood’ to the memory of the Wrench Family, my Wife Elizabeth, (all deceased), and me.
Members of Long Wittenham opened their Hearts and Homes to provide shelter and hope for Families fleeing the London Blitz for which I will be forever Grateful.
Every Success in your Future Endeavours Gordon.
    Edwin Heywood
