Funding for River and Canal Projects

LEADER is a scheme that delivers European funding for rural development using a community-led approach. The LEADER scheme is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).  It is managed nationally by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) on behalf of Defra.

Oxfordshire LEADER is one of eighty LEADER areas which deliver the programme.

LEADER is seeking projects that will encourage more people to enjoy the rivers and canal in Oxfordshire and also support the rural economy.

Types of projects could be:

  • Cafes/shops on the river
  • Activities along or on the river such as kayaking, rowing, walking, cycling
  • Accommodation for visitors on the river

Long Wittenham has been identified as a parish that falls into the LEADER funding area and located near to a river or canal.

An information event on LEADER funding for river and canal projects in Oxfordshire will be held on Monday 3rd July, 2-4pm at South Oxfordshire District Council Offices – 135 Eastern Avenue, Milton Park, OX14 4SB.

If you have a project or would be interested to discuss ideas and find out more, go along to the event.
