Three horse boxes worth more than £13,000 were stolen recently from fields on a remote part of Northfield Lane. Thieves cut through a lock on the gates to the paddock and used a gas cutter to burn off locks and wheel clamps fixed to the boxes.
The trailers, worth £4,500 each, belonged to Jane Hemery and Emma Jennings who live in the village. They say they are deeply upset by the thefts which will make it difficult when they want to move the animals.
Thames Valley police visited the paddock in Northfield Lane to investigate. They say that there has been an outbreak of thefts from remote areas in recent months, particularly in the Wantage and Milton districts. Farmers and horse owners have been urged to be vigilant.
