POLICE & COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICERS

I would like to introduce the Wallingford Team covering Long Wittenham, for those who do not know us already; we have two Police Community Support Officers, PCSO Sam Greenough and PCSO Taqwa Hyatt. The neighbourhood specialist officer is PC Andy Hornsby. As well as the Long Wittenham and Little Wittenham, our area also covers Wallingford, Brightwell - Cum - Sotwell, Crowmarsh Gifford, Ipsden and Nuffield.

Our job as PCSOs within the neighbourhood team is to patrol the Wallingford area and surrounding villages, tackling lower level crime such as criminal damage and anti-social behaviour. We can help with any traffic issues and show high visibility to the community so they can approach us with any queries or problems.

PCSO Sarah Talbot and I attended the Village Open Day on Saturday 10th May 2008. We wanted to introduce ourselves to the residents of the village, promoting the role that we do within the area and also were available to give out some crime reduction advice. We had a lot of positive feedback with key issues being parking in the village. As a PCSO we are able to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to those who cause obstruction or those parking illegally. If there are any specific issues regarding parking then please feel free to contact us to discuss these.

We issued many leaflets and stickers to residents warning them about distraction burglaries and how to avoid being a victim of this. A simple sticker on the door asking bogus officials to not call at your door can have a huge impact in a small village and is something Thames Valley
Police are trying to promote. We did advise people that they can contact the Crime Reduction Officer through the non-emergency number, 0845 8 505 505 to get free advice and surveys to help increase security on properties and land.

Please feel free to stop us to discuss any issues when we are patrolling the area or ring 08458 505 505 and ask to be put through to one of us. For more information on your neighbourhood policing team, visit the Thames Valley Police website. Taqwa Hyatt
