New Warning Signs for Cyclepath

New warning signs urging cyclist to be aware of horses along the Long Wittenham to Didcot cyclepath are to be erected by the parish council.  They will be sited at the entrance to the path at Acklings in the west end of the village and at the junction with the Appleford Road.

The cyclepath, which is part of the National Cycle Network, is widely used by cyclists, walkers and horse riders for recreation and access to Didcot for the railway station and shops.  The decision to put up the signs follows incidents involving cyclists and horse riders.

The signs read:  Combined Bridleway and National Cycle Route. Cyclists must give way to horses and walkers.  No motorcycles.

Meanwhile Oxfordshire County Council is investigating the cost of carrying our repairs and widening sections of the cyclepath between Acklings and the bridge.  And another county council report is expected soon on establishing a cycleway network linking Harwell, Milton Park, Didcot and Culham.

Consultants have been examining the possibility of a route running alongside the main road between Long Wittenham and Clifton Hampden.  The report is expected to investigate the cost and engineering issues a roadside cycle track-cum-path would present.
