OUT & ABOUT
The Northmoor Trust
 |
The Northmoor Trust has one of the county’s natural gems, the Wittenham Clumps, at the heart of its estate. The Wittenham Clumps is an iconic landscape, visited and loved by generations. With its rich diversity of habitats of woodland, hay meadow, wetland and chalk downland, it is home to an array of wildlife including bats, badgers, damselflies, great crested newts and over one hundred bird species.
The Northmoor Trust is devoted to wildlife and nature conservation. The Trust’s work extends across our 300 hectare estate, managing the clumps, a nature reserve, conservation farm and arboretum and pursuing scientific research.
|
The Trust’s school programme stretches across the county and their education and visitor centre, Project Timescape, explores the evolution of the local landscape.
From the top of the Wittenham Clumps visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Chilterns and the River Thames. The Clumps contain important archaeology including a magnificent Iron Age Hill Fort about 2,800 years old.
Ponds and wetlands on the reserve are home to one of the UK's largest populations of Great Crested Newt, visitors can join one of the Trust’s regular walks to learn more about the fascinating amphibians living on the estate. For more information and to see what's on, visit www.northmoortrust.co.uk
