Parish Council Backs Fun Run

Long Wittenham Parish Council is giving financial support to the annual Fun Run and Walk which raises money for village projects.  The council has agreed to pay for medals and certificates and to provide insurance cover.

Last year the Run raised nearly £1,000 some of which went towards the new play equipment project in Bodkin’s Field and some to St Mary’s Church for help with the plan to build a new multi-access toilet.

Run organiser Prew Bowtell said: “We are grateful for the support given by the parish council.  It is an important event which has been part of the village calendar for many years now and raises money for many good causes in the village.”

This year’s event takes place on Sunday 10th June.  Starting and finishing in the garden of The Plough pub, the route over five kilometres (three miles) is predominately off-road around Neptune Wood.  Last year nearly 200 people took part.  The winner took 17 minutes to complete the course.

Entrance fee is £5 for adults, £1 for under-18s and £10 for a family of two adults and children, but the fees goes up by £1 for people registering on the day.

If you will not be running but can spare a couple of hours on the day to help with with the event, the organisers would be pleased to hear from you.  They need time recorders, marshals, entries desk officials and barbecue helpers.
