Plough’s Beer Wins Praise

Long Wittenham’s Plough Inn has earned high praise for its beer selection in a competition run by Camra the national real ale pressure group.  The Plough came second in a short list of five pubs in South Oxfordshire.

The winner by a short head was The Fleur de Leys at East Hagbourne.  The three other finalists were The Plum Pudding (formerly The Admiral Benbow) at Milton, The Bird in Hand at Henley and The Packhorse at Mapledurham.

The five pubs had the highest average beer score in the last twelve months from Camra members in South Oxfordshire.  The winner was selected by secret ballot.  Camra branch secretary Paul Dixon said: “Each pub has a strong sense of serving the community and all are worthy candidates.  The Plough in Long Wittenham continues to impress with its selection of beers.”

The competition is designed to find the pub with the best selection of quality beers.  Plough landlord Liam Carberry takes pride in introducing new beers.  The pub rotates its cask beer, most of which is sourced from local breweries in Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties.  The long-standing favourite however is Butcombe bitter from Somerset.
