The village’s Pre-School has completed a project to revitalise the space at the side of the Village Hall. It has created what the school says is “a more appealing and stimulating environment”.
The school had planned to spend the Summer term holding cake sales and volunteering at local community events to raise funds for the garden project but due to Covid-19, the school took the difficult decision to remain closed. This presented the trustees with some dilemmas, one of which was how to use ‘virtual’ fund raising activities.
An appeal was made to parents, carers and the wider village for donations of plants, pledges of time and gifts through an Amazon Wish List. One of the main organisers Eli Pokorna said: “We have been overwhelmed at the positive response from our community. We have received donations of everything from pumpkin plants, bug hotels and children’s gardening tools.”
In addition to donations, the pre-school has benefitted from a band of volunteers who have spent time clearing, weeding, painting fences and organising the garden. Mrs Pokorna added: “Thanks to the hard work and kindness of the community we now have a vibrant, inspiring and safe outdoor space for the children to learn and play.”
The Pre-School said the children, staff and trustees, thanked the village community for its support and said they are looking forward to seeing the children enjoying the space in September. Mrs Pokorna said: “We worked hard to make the environment rich, meaningful, stimulating and motivating for our children”.
