Quarry Decision Delayed Again

There’s been yet another delay to the long awaited decision on the application for the proposed quarry near Clifton Hampden.

Oxfordshire County Council’s planning committee was due to have considered the application by Hills Quarry Products on 3rd June but this has been postponed because of significant issues identified in the latest proposals from Hills.

The company had proposed a reduction in the height of a bund needed to protect neighbouring residents from noise and dust from ten to eight metres.  But this means digging down two metres to install the quarry machinery, putting the machinery below flood water levels and further increasing the risk of flooding.

These problems were brought to the planning officer’s attention by the anti-quarry campaign group Bachport (Burcot & Clifton Hampden for the Protection of the River Thames) and statutory bodies including South Oxfordshire District Council’s Environmental Health Officer.

Another complicating factor was that the closing date for comments on the fresh proposals from Hills was the same day that the planning committee was due to have made its decision.

The next possible date for the issue to be discussed by councillors is 15th July.
