Road Closures – Clifton Hampden

The Parish Council has been advised by the Traffic Regulations team at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) of road works which will result in the closure of the road over Clifton Hampden Bridge for two periods over the next couple of months.

Closure 1 (Ref T8356/AC) will operate from 20th February up to and including 1st March between 07:00 and 19:00.  Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.  This is to facilitate vegetation clearance work.

Closure 2 (Ref T8291/RAG) will operate from 8th March up to and including 5th April with appropriate traffic signs displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.  This is to facilitate repairs to traffic signals and embankments.

The OCC Traffic Regulations team has provided two plans showing the extent of the closures, alternative routes for traffic and other information: Plan1 / Plan2.

These dates cannot be correct, surely?? I have to get to Oxford for work & this is ridiculous.

    • Chris Waites says:

      The details aren’t right.

      The correct details are

      Sat 20/Feb 09:00 to Mon 22/Feb 19:00

      Sat 27/Feb 09:00 to Mon 01/Mar 19:00

      Mon 8/Mar to Mon 5/Apr 09:30 – 16:00 daily (e.g. open AM/PM peak)

      from the council’s documents.

  2. All matters concerning highways are the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council and not Long Wittenham Parish Council. I share the concerns of residents about the inconvenience the closure of Clifton Hampden bridge will cause but these works are considered essential for safety by the county council. Suggested diversions to avoid the bridge during the day will be in operation. Any queries should be directed to the Traffic regulations Team on 0345 310 1111 quoting the appropriate reference number above.
