Village Poppy Appeal

More than £1,500 was collected in Long and Little Wittenham for the annual Poppy Appeal for the Royal British Legion.

Eight collectors toured the two villages and there were collection boxes in The Plough Inn and The Vine and Spice, the Athletics Club in Bodkin’s Field and the Primary School.  The Parish Council donated £50 to the appeal.

Collection organiser Prew Bowtell said: “Prior to last year. we usually raised about £1,000 so everyone was extra generous this year.  Our thanks to everyone who supported the work of the Royal British Legion.  It plays a valuable part in helping rehabilitate former servicemen and woman, and supports those in the armed forces who continue to serve the nation.”

“A huge vote of thanks is also due to our retired group of volunteers, several of whom have supported us for very many years.  I would also like to praise the work of our new recruits who joined us this year”.
