With the Coronavirus emergency unlikely to be lifted by the government until May at the earliest, the Volunteer Group in Long Wittenham continues to offer help and support to residents.
Since the lockdown, volunteers have been busy helping isolated and lonely people with a host of errands including prescription collections from Clifton Hampden surgery and pharmacies in Didcot and Wallingford, carrying out shopping trips, and providing transport for people to get to hospital appointments.
Co-ordinating the volunteer group is Parish Councillor Sally Duff who said: “I continue to be amazed at the help and generosity of villagers in the face of this emergency. More volunteers are coming forward as we continue to look after each other.”

So appreciated and underlines our fortune in living in such a supportive and caring village.
As an NHS nurse living here can I just say my appreciation for all the hard work our village volunteers are putting in. From our point of view, they mean people who are unavoidably in hospital can get in and out easily without having to wait for ambulances (trust me, you do not want to be in hospital for a minute longer than you have to at the moment).
Plus of course whether or not it’s obvious all your hard work means almost certainly villagers don’t end up in hospital in the first place.
Thank you all – myself and all my colleagues are here for you at the moment and rest assured every bit of support you are giving to us at the moment is so appreciated, especially the amazing rainbow pictures I have seen throughout the village.
