Didcot Garden Town Advisory Board
Monday 26 July

Our recent advisory board saw us introduce a substitute Chair, Cllr Duncan Enright from Oxfordshire County Council. Cllr Enright was covering for Cllr Liz Leffman, the new Leader of the county council.  Members also welcomed the new Leader of Didcot Town Council, Cllr Denise MacDonald.

During the meeting, members of the board were presented with a detailed report on the housing sites update including Great Western Park and Willowbrook - the development north of Ladygrove. Homes England provided the group with their latest thoughts on the Gateway site, which is situated opposite Didcot Parkway. The board also heard a summary of the feedback from our Business Sounding Board leadership team and the last Residents’ Sounding Board.

Didcot Garden Town Residents’ Sounding Board

At our last Residents’ Sounding Board in May, attendees heard about the proposed Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) and several environmental projects, including flower re-wilding and allotments.

During the meeting, those attending were able to join in virtually by submitting their questions and taking part in various online polls asking them to give us feedback.

One of the polls was whether they would support initiatives on community allotments, wild areas, vertical planting, place-making or tiny forests.

Lots of fun for all the family at the
Didcot Garden Party this summer

We've teamed up with Cornerstone to make Didcot the place to be throughout the summer with our first ever garden party.

The ‘town square’ outside Cornerstone Arts Centre has been transformed into a town centre garden for the duration of the summer, with green turf, beanbags, deckchairs and other relaxing seating for visitors to come along, chill out, take part in activities or just soak up the party atmosphere.

A wide range of fun summer events for all ages was launched on 24 July and will be taking place every weekend all the way through the school holidays until 4 September. Cornerstone’s party lawn will be the focus of the events, but lots of exciting things will be happening at other locations across the town too. Here's what's on in the next coming weeks:

Didcot's Map

We’ve produced an amazing map that you can download, or pick up a paper copy at Cornerstone, to help you find brilliant places around Didcot and the surrounding area.

The map has some great walks and art trails that you can do with your family or group of friends.

It shows lots of local landmarks and includes Cornerstone Arts Centre, and the Mantle art feature at Harwell Campus; a site which helps to celebrate the Science Vale and helps to create new jobs and opportunities.

£405k awarded to South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are to receive £405,000 of government funding to help continue work on three garden community projects. The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced that the capacity funding has been allocated to Didcot Garden Town, Berinsfield Garden Village and Dalton Barracks Garden Village.

Funding will help to ensure our Didcot Garden Town principles such as well planned and sustainable housing developments are built alongside the right community facilities. Having this support also helps to bring better infrastructure, including green open spaces and connected cycle paths to support health and well-being.
