You Can Be A Dragon Boat Racer

On Sunday 9th September, the Dragon Boat Race comes to Abingdon again.

The Wittenham Wannabees (the men) were victorious last year and the ladies team (Wittenham Warriors) came in a respectable top 10 position.  No mean feat against predominantly all male or mixed crews.

This year however, The Dragon Boat Race (DBR) Committee (Tom Mellor, Tory and Jason Edwards) is planning only one mixed boat entry and they need a squad of 20 people from the village to participate.  Prospective drummers may also apply.

The day starts about 9am and last usually to about 3-4pm with something for everyone: a fun fair, beer tent, a village picnic and get together by the river in Abingdon, usually a chance to top up your tans from the Summer and of course either participating in or supporting your fellow villagers at this wonderful community event.

If you are interested in being part of the squad please email Tory Edwards (address below) and then drop a cheque or cash (£30 per person is the entry fee) in an envelope with your details at Greenways, Didcot Road.

DO NOT WORRY if you are a DBR fresher – there will be some training beforehand and all you really need is some competitive spirit and a willingness to have fun.

Boat entries close at the end of March so please, do not delay.
