For longer than anyone can remember the Second Sunday after Trinity Sunday has been kept as the Feast of Dedication of St. Mary’s Church.

Up until World War II the Feast would have been accompanied by a Fair held on the grass verges opposite the Village Cross.

Tradition has it that the Cross marks the spot where St Birinus preached to the pagan Saxons of Witta’s Ham in about 635AD before moving on to Dorchester.

Sunday, 9th June is Feast Sunday and there will be a special Service of Holy Communion to thank God for our present Village Church which has stood here for over 900 years and where the people of Long Wittenham have gathered to worship God, to Baptise children and adults, to Marry couples and to hold Funeral Services for those who have died.
