Apple Day Report

Sally Duff, organiser of Village Apple Day, writes …

Thanks to everyone who brought along apples and the volunteers who donated their time yesterday (20th October) to make this year’s Apple Day a success.

214kgs of apples were juiced, producing 107 bottles of delicious apple juice.  The workers were fortified with with Cheese and Pickle rolls and Lemon Drizzle cake.

The excess bottles of juice were sold and the profit of £101:10 was donated to the Sylva Foundation.

Special thanks to Gabriel Hemery for hosting and helping, Andrew Lea for his expertise and helping, Jim Brown, crusher and juicer extraordinaire, and all our lovely volunteers who came out on a wet and windy Sunday morning, along with Alba & Ludo the welcoming dog committee.

This is the last year I will be running Apple Day.  Wittenham Warriors will be donating the apple juicing equipment to Sylva for the Community Orchard.

If anyone wants to take on running the event please talk to me.  I have notes on what is needed to be done and all being well, would be willing to assist next year.

Congratulations to all the willing helpers for their hard work and for keeping this tradition going. Without willing helpers this wouldn’t happen . Thanks to Sally for all her hard work in organising for so many years.
