Bonfire Night 2024 Epilogue

Emma Newman writes …

Heartfelt thanks go out to all of the volunteers who came together to make Bonfire Night 2024 such a success: The Wood Collectors and Bonfire Builders, BBQ, Bar and Sweet Treat Providers, First Aiders, Marshals, Photographers, and our Support Crew who kept us refuelled during set up and take down.

Thank you to everybody who came along to support, everybody who donated and who kindly offered their time, their electricity and their equipment, including PMS, Earth Trust and The Athletics Club for the fencing and M&M skip hire who kindly provided a free skip for the clear up.

Huge thanks also go to to the PCC for the loan of Ward’s field and the Parish Council who have underwritten and insured this event for the past eight seasons.

And it is also time to announce a new era.  The Wittenham Warriors are officially standing down as a body (although we hope many activities including Bonfire Night and Safari Supper will continue).  Having run many amazing events over the years it is now time for some new energy to take things forward into the future.  Bonfire Night is just one of a number of fun activities that have been run for the village over the years and we have great processes in place that we can hand over to the new team to make it easy to pick up.  Many members of the village will continue to get involved – it just needs somebody to coordinate!  Please get in touch with me (emmanewman@me.com) for details.

It looks like a wonderful evening was had by all who attended and thanks go out to the organisers and volunteers without these people there would not be village events so a big thank you .

Sadly no feedback whatsoever about an offer of wood for the event!
Will now dispose of it through alternative avenues, legal which goes without saying. Just sad that the earlier contact was ignored.

June – I emailed you back about 4 times to get your address and arrange a collection and never heard back from you. I wonder if the emails went into your junk / spam. We never ignore offers like this and made about 20 collections over Friday and Saturday and would have gladly taken yours – you were on the list but without the location / any contact number there was nothing much I could do!
