Company Boss Joins Council

Long Wittenham Parish Council has a new member.  He’s Iain McRitchie and his appointment brings the number of councillors up to six – one short of the maximum of seven.

Iain and his wife Christine have lived in Westfield Road since 1999, with their four, now teenage, children.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, working in a range of senior roles for many years before setting up Earthwise Products Ltd in 2012.

Last year Iain and Christine bought Sharp’s Yard, near Bodkin’s Field.  It is home to Earthwise Products Ltd and a small Engineering company Earthwise Trading Ltd, a wholesaler and retailer of reusable products.  In addition, a new company Earthwise Electrical which started this year is based in Sharp’s Yard.

Earthwise Trading won the NatWest Venus award for online business of the year 2016 and Earthwise Products won the Federation of Small Businesses regional micro business of the Year 2014 as well as being a finalist in the Oxford business awards in 2013.

Iain has previously acted as Treasurer for Long Wittenham Parochial Church Council and has also volunteered as an Oxford Business Mentor for many years.  He enjoys walking his dog and fishing.

Council chairman Gordon Rogers said: “We welcome Iain and hope his business experience will add a new perspective to the work of the council.  We are still one councillor short of our full complement of seven and need another recruit to help shape the future direction of the village. The council is working hard on plans for a new hub and the Neighbourhood Development Plan.”
