Healthy Start

Oxfordshire County Council has asked the Parish Council to promote Healthy Start.

Healthy Start is a government initiative designed to support families in need by providing money towards buying healthy food and milk.  If a person is more than 10 weeks pregnant or has a child under four years old, they may be eligible for this programme.

Eligible families will receive a Healthy Start card, which is pre-loaded with funds (up to £34) that can be used in various shops across the UK.  The benefit is added to the card every four weeks.

The Healthy Start card can be used to purchase:

  • Plain liquid cow’s milk
  • Fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit and vegetables
  • Fresh, dried, and tinned pulses
  • Infant formula milk based on cow’s milk

Additionally, the card can be used to collect:

  • Healthy Start vitamins, which support individuals during pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Vitamin drops for babies and young children, suitable from birth to 4 years old
