The Plough Inn will be re-opening on the 3rd February, a month earlier than originally planned.
The pub closed at the end of December because of poor trading, but with the government lockdown rules easing, the owner, Julie Carberry, has decided to re-open. She said: “Now that the government is relaxing the rules, we are opening earlier in the hope that customers will have the confidence to return to the pub”.
The Community Hub, to be built on the site to south of the Vanderbilt development, will include a new school, pre-school and village hall, as well as some houses to cross fund the community buildings.
The Parish Council’s development partner, Thomas Homes, is drawing up new plans for the site with a view to submitting a planning application later in the year. Continue reading

The revised Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) continues to make good progress.
Over two years ago, following the previous consultation on the NDP, Historic England scheduled (as a Historic Monument) part of the Community Hub site included in the NDP. The Parish Council has been advised by the Network Management team at Oxfordshire County Council that a temporary road closure will apply to a section of Main Road in Appleford whilst new far side barrier pipe water connection works are carried out.
The closure and will operate from 18th January up to and including 21st January.

Long Wittenham will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday 5th June 2022 from 2pm to 5pm.
Residents can look forward to a street parade, a tea party at The Plough Inn, a swing band, beer, lemonade, ice creams, and mostly, lots of fun for everyone, young, old and all inbetween. Villagers will be encouraged to decorate their houses for the occasion. More details to follow.
