Chris King 1936-2021

A popular coach driver in Long Wittenham, Chris (Charles) King, who took villagers on coach trips to seaside resorts around the country and to local markets has died.  He was eighty-five.

Chris was born in West Hendred.  The family lived on the Lockinge Estate working as carters and shepherds.  Chris and his parents, Punch and Daisy Bell, moved to Long Wittenham in the early 1950s. Continue reading

Didcot Road 9th – 11th August

Thames Water has advised that it will be carrying out works on Didcot Road for a new water main connection between Monday 9th and Wednesday 11th August from 8am to 5pm.  Residents’ water supplies will not be affected.

Traffic controls (two-way signals) may cause some delays.

Oxfordshire Plan 2050 Consultation

The Oxfordshire Plan 2050 is a long-term plan that will set a framework for future planning decisions.

Electric Blanket Testing

Oxfordshire Trading Standards is again offering is annual free electric blanket testing for residents.

Blankets will be collected from homes, taken to be tested and returned the same day.  A plastic bag and label will be posted prior to collection.

Garden Waste Collections Suspended

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has asked the Parish Council to let residents know that it is suspending garden waste collections.

This is due to the ongoing issues of a shortage of HGV drivers, as a result of the pandemic and Brexit, who are needed to drive its waste collection vehicles.

Electric Vehicle Events

Three test drive events are taking place in Oxfordshire next month to showcase electric vehicles (EVs) and an innovative new way of charging them aimed at people without off-street parking.

Oxfordshire’s park and charge team will be running live roadshow events in Abingdon, Witney and Henley in August.  These free events will be an opportunity for residents to learn more about EVs and the different options for making the switch. Continue reading

Household Waste and Recycling Centres Survey

Resident are urged to have their say on the county’s household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs).

Oxfordshire County Council has started a consultation process to find out the views of residents, businesses and other organisations on the service that is provided now and what they might like to see in the future.

Annual Voter Registration

South Oxfordshire District Council is sending a ‘Canvass Communication Form’ to every home requiring the residents to check the details of everyone over the age of 16 that lives in their property.  Local authorities need to do this by law each year in order to ensure the electoral register is up to date.
