The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application, at Vincent House, High Street, Long Wittenham, is for the removal of the existing garage and replacement with an oak detailed garage.

Waste Collections

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has advised that there have been some disruptions to waste collections this week which may affect Long Wittenham.

If your bins do not get emptied on the usual bin day, please leave them out and SODC will get to them by the end of the week (including Saturday and Sunday).

Going Forward Buses Special Offer

Going Forward Buses has announced the following special offer from Monday 17th May to the end of June:

Two journeys for the price of one.  Buy an adult single ticket and return (same day) for free.  For most journeys the single fare is £4, but for some routes the single fare will be £3, and this includes Long Wittenham to Didcot.

Didcot Road / Sires Hill 24th May

The Parish Council has been advised by the Network Management Team at Oxfordshire County Council that roadworks will take place on Didcot Road and Sires Hill overnight between 24th and 26th May to facilitate carriageway resurfacing and signage improvement.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (see below) has been issued to implement the temporary closure which will operate from 7:30pm to 6am each night. Continue reading

County Councillor Re-elected

Dr Pete Sudbury has retained his Wallingford seat on Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) for the Green Party.  In Thursday’s election he polled 2,111 votes, beating his nearest rival, the Conservative candidate Lee Upcraft who polled 1,183.  Labour’s George Ryall was bottom with 290 votes.

Dr Sudbury gained 59% of the vote, well ahead of Mr Upcraft with 33%.  Mr Ryall captured 8%.  The total number of votes cast was 3,584.  There was a 43% turn out. Continue reading

Where Smooth Waters Glide

Residents may be interested in a new online exhibition called Where Smooth Waters Glide, which is drawn from the archives of the Thames Conservancy and its predecessor, the Thames Navigation Commission.  It explores the history of the Upper Thames from its source to Teddington.

Appleford Railway Bridge 3rd June 2021

The Network Management Team at Oxfordshire County Council has advised the Parish Council that the road over Appleford Railway Bridge will be closed in June whilst essential repair and maintenance work is carried out.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (see below) is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 3rd June 2021 up to and including 20th June 2021.  This is a 24 hour road closure. Continue reading

Councillors Visit Vanderbilt Site

Parish councillors were recently given a tour of the Vanderbilt housing development.  They were shown around the site by Head of Construction, Peter Hutson and Site Manager, Jason King.

The company has been on site for two months and the new entrance on Didcot Road will soon replace the temporary access off Fieldside.  Mr Hutson said good progress was being made and the opening of the first show house was expected in November or early December. Continue reading
