South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has written to the Government stating strong objections to several proposed reforms to the current planning system.
The Government’s proposed changes were outlined in the Planning for the Future white paper.

The Sylva Foundation plans to re-route a permissive footpath through its premises off Little Wittenham Road. It will make it safer for walkers to avoid traffic which uses the Wood Centre.
The Parish Council and the village’s footpath warden David Corney support the move which will make the path more secure for pedestrians. Mr Corney said: “I fully support this move which will benefit villagers by making it safer to walk on the paths through the area”. Continue reading
Residents who are signed up for brown bin collections can put out twice as much garden waste on Thursday 5th November.
South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) is giving those who are part of the paid-for service the opportunity to put out the equivalent of one extra bin’s worth of garden waste (around three large bin bags).

have been reports of recent nefarious activity in the village. A catalytic converter was stolen from a car in Saxons Heath during the night last week, and someone was caught on camera in a garden in St John’s Row, again at night.
Residents are advised to be vigilant, keep sheds, outhouses and cars locked, and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Residents in South Oxfordshire are being encouraged to give their views on proposed changes to parking arrangements in the district council’s off-street car parks.
Over the summer, South Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet agreed to amend the district’s parking policy, including changes to charging periods to ensure all towns are treated equally, and measures designed to encourage the use of electric vehicles in order help tackle the climate emergency by reducing emissions. After Hallowe’en, don’t forget to put out any pumpkins that can’t be used in cooking or composting, for food waste recycling. They will be collected by the bin crews if left next to the food waste bin on the appropriate collection day. Please remove any candles.
The pumpkins, like other food waste recycling, will be taken to a processing centre in Oxfordshire where they will be transformed into fertiliser and green electricity. Continue reading

For items without serial numbers, such as jewellery or bikes, you can buy security stickers, pens or RFID tags to attach to them, and then log these on the database. Continue reading
The roadworks which had been scheduled to start on the High Street earlier in the month, are now expected to start on Monday 26th October. The works will create new ramped cycle by-pass lanes at the two build-outs opposite Red Barn and No 35.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by 6th November.
Temporary traffic lights will be used to manage the work and road closures are not anticipated.
