Come rain, come shine, Roger Stone was a regular cyclist on most days between the village and Didcot. But the familiar site of Roger on his bicycle is now a closed chapter. He died recently at his home in Saxon’s Heath from pneumonia after suffering from cancer. He was seventy-seven.

In a move to encourage drivers to reduce speed on Little Wittenham Road, the Parish Council has installed a pair of white ‘gates’ next to the 30mph signs. It is hoped that they will remind drivers that they are entering a village environment and make them slow down.
At the November meeting of the council several residents living on or near the road voiced their concerns about speeding vehicles. They said that since the Coronavirus lockdown measures were imposed, traffic on the road has significantly increased. Continue reading
Delays still plague progress on the revised Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP).
The main issue surrounds archaeology, as the county archaeologist requires more excavation on the extended Community Hub site. The geophysical survey that was requested has now been completed and the county archaeologist will decide what additional excavations are required.

We have had reports that residents in Saxons Heath and Westfield Road have been the targets of a scam where they have received text or email messages saying that Royal Mail has attempted to deliver a parcel and in order to receive it they must pay a fee.
This is one of several similar scams of which Royal Mail is aware. There are more details and information about how to report the scams on the Royal Mail website.
Residents will have noticed that the work has finished on new cycle by-pass lanes in the High Street opposite Red Barn and number 35.
The new features are designed to make it safer for cyclists and form part of the cycle route linking Didcot with the Culham Science Centre.

More than thirty people gathered at the war memorial yesterday (11th November) to remember those villagers who gave their lives in the First World War. Concerns about Coronavirus failed to lessen the public’s commitment to the event.
The commemoration was conducted by the Revd David Haylett and the new team vicar the Revd Canon Paul Wignall. The public gathered opposite the memorial in the car park of the Vine and Spice. Continue reading
Although the Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) library service is currently unable to open libraries for browsing, it is offering a new free service for customers of all ages who are interested in a new way to explore books and reading during lockdown.
To access the service, residents need to complete a short online form available on the council’s website, telling the library what sort of books they like to read and how many they would like. Continue reading
