A Sounding Board meeting of the Didcot Garden Town (DGT) project, for town and parish councils within the area of influence, was held last Tuesday evening (22nd September) via video link.

Residents will be aware that the emerging South Oxfordshire Local Plan is currently at the Examination stage. Following recent examination hearings, the Planning Inspector has asked South Oxfordshire District Council to prepare a ‘Schedule of Proposed Main Modifications’ to the plan.

There will be no appeal by the Parish Council to a decision by Oxfordshire County Council to refuse permission for a change in status of Northfield Lane from a footpath to a bridleway.
At the September meeting of the Parish Council, Tom Bowtell, who was chairman at the time of the original application in 2013, said that the reason for the application was that there had been conflict between horse riders and farm traffic, but since then the issue appeared to have been resolved. Work will start next month on a £12,000 scheme to replace the equipment at the Westfield toddlers’ play area. The Parish Council has secured a grant of more than £4,500 from the FCC Communities Foundation, a non-profit company funded by landfill tax which supports the environment.
The council is backing the project with a grant of £7,200 and South Oxfordshire District Council and the village social group Wittenham Warriors have also made contributions. Continue reading

There is widespread anger in the village over the activities of a family of four who recently blighted part of the River Thames along a stretch popular with anglers.
