Vanderbilt Homes Update

Residents will have noticed that the Vanderbilt housing site on the corner of Fieldside and Didcot Road is now ringed by steel fencing.

This has been done in anticipation of archaeological works on the site which are due to commence on 14th October.  They are expected to take between eight and twelve weeks.  The works are being done as part of the site preparation and have been planned, discussed and agreed with the local authority and Vanderbilt’s own consultants. Youth Opportunity Fund

Voluntary and community organisations are being invited to bid for portions of Oxfordshire County Council’s new £1m two-year grant fund, the Youth Opportunity Fund.

Feedback from Oxfordshire residents points to strong support for improving community-run youth services.  This new fund is available to help existing projects expand and new ones get started.  Grants of up to £70,000 are available. Continue reading

Bonfire Night Entry Wristbands Now On Sale

Entry wristbands are now available from Long Wittenham School office and Clifton Hampden Post Office for the 11th annual Village Bonfire Night on Saturday 2nd November from 6pm on Wards Field.  Prices are £6 for adults, £3 for children (U4s free) and £16 for a family bundle (2 adults, 2 children).

As ever, this promises to be a really magical evening including a bar, barbecue, mulled wine, sweet treats, glow stuff, and, of course, an amazing firework display.

Painting and Life Drawing Classes

Residents with an artistic bent may be interested to hear that art classes will be starting soon on Wednesday mornings at Clifton Hampden Village Hall.

Run by Charisse Gardiner, who has been teaching painting, drawing and life drawing since 1998, the classes are suitable for all levels of ability and experience, and cover all the basic elements of painting and life drawing, including tone, composition and colour. Continue reading

Boost for Bells Appeal

More money has been raised to boost the appeal for the restoration of the church bells at St Mary’s church, including £1,000 from an anonymous donor.

The Wittenham Warriors Safari Supper in the middle of September raised £1,200 and the recent “Bingo for Bells” event in the village hall raised £287.  The anonymous donation of £1,000 came through the Just Giving website.

So far almost £30,000 has been pledged or promised towards the restoration of the six Continue reading

SODC Local Plan Update

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) is due to decide the next step for the district’s Local Plan at the council’s next round of meetings following discussions with the government and partner organisations.

At the Council meeting in July this year, councillors voted to spend some time to find effective and suitable ways to ensure the plan takes into consideration feedback from local residents, who have raised concerns about the emerging Local Plan’s approach to providing land for housing in the district. Electric Blanket Checking Events

South Oxfordshire District Council and Oxfordshire Trading Standards are offering a series of free Electric Blanket Checking events this October.
