Film Club At St Mary’s

Mark the third Monday of each month in your calendar to remind you to come along to St Mary’s Church at 1:45pm for the new Long Wittenham Film Club which starts on Monday 16th September.

Age UK will be screening a classic movie each month and the club is open to all residents.  Bring a cushion and come along to enjoy a good film with a slice of cake and a cup of tea in the interval.

Household Enquiry Form

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has asked the Parish Council to inform residents that shortly, every home in South Oxfordshire will receive a yellow letter (a ‘Household Enquiry Form’) requiring residents to confirm everyone over the age of 16 who lives in their property.

Pirates of the Curry Bean

This year’s end of year play, performed by the leavers of Long Wittenham Primary School was a mix of pantomime and musical comedy, and it was great fun.

The Gatehouse, Oxford

For over fifteen years the villagers of Long and Little Wittenham and Clifton Hampden have been providing sandwiches and cakes once a month for The Gatehouse in Oxford, a charitable organisation that provides hot drinks and food daily throughout the year for the homeless.

Little Wittenham Road Closure

The Parish Council has been advised by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) Highways Department that the road between Long Wittenham and Little Wittenham will be closed for four days in September to allow for the installation of new water connections.  Work is due to start on Tuesday 3rd September and should be completed by 6th September.

District Councils Oppose Expressway

There is growing opposition to plans for an Oxford to Cambridge expressway, one possible route of which could go south of Oxford and close to Clifton Hampden.  Both South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse District Councils have voted to oppose the proposed new road and a local MP has joined in the chorus of complaints.

WI Raises Funds For Cancer Charity

More than £160 was raised at a recent afternoon tea party in aid of locally based charity Against Breast Cancer.

The event at The Old Stables on Fieldside on 25th July, was organised by the Wittenhams branch of the Women’s Institute which is celebrating its seventieth birthday this year.
