Free Parking For Christmas Shopping

Motorists in South Oxfordshire can enjoy free parking in district council car parks on certain days in the run up to Christmas.

Another Delay In Quarry Decision

Plans for the quarry near Clifton Hampden are not now expected to be considered by Oxfordshire County Council’s planning committee until the New Year.

Free Swimming For Residents With Diabetes

Residents who have diabetes can sign up for a month’s FREE swimming thanks to a special offer from South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse District Councils.

Cyclepath Signs Vandalised

Vandals have cost the Parish Council more than £60 after attacking and destroying signs urging cyclists to respect horse riders on the cyclepath between the village and Didcot.

The signs were erected at the start of the cyclepath at the west end of the village and where the path crosses the Appleford Road.

Long Wittenham Honours The Dead

More than sixty residents gathered at the war memorial in the High Street on Remembrance Sunday to honour those who lost their lives in the First World War.

The ceremony had particular significance this year because the 11th of November marked the one hundredth anniversary of the end of one of the most horrific wars in history. Continue reading

Bodkin’s Field History Discovered

When the Athletic Club’s Life-Vice-President Bill Symonds decided it was time to clear out his garden shed, little did he realise his efforts would unearth a trip down memory lane for himself, the club and Long Wittenham.

Bill discovered a small metal plaque dating back to May 1937 when Archibald Bodkin officially donated the land off Northfield Lane to the village for sport. Continue reading

Neighbourhood Plan: Regulation 16 Consultation

Kler Plan Rejected

Last evening, South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee rejected plans by Kler Group to realign the Didcot Road to facilitate the entrance to their housing development on the corner of Didcot Road and Fieldside.  Seven councillors voted to reject the application and three abstained.
