Hate Crime Champions Needed

Thames Valley Police are working together with the Hate Crime Network (HCN) to recruit Hate Crime Champions (HCC’s) within the South and Vale area.

A hate crime is any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice held by the offender. These prejudices surround an individual’s disability, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.

Village Crafting Event

Wittenham WI and the ladies running the Church Fete Craft Stall invite all Needle-workers, Craft-workers & Handy-workers to a fun workshop on Saturday 6th August from 10am to 3pm (approx) in the Village Hall.

Come and learn some fresh skills and make new friends!

We will be making easy, attractive items (e.g. bags, jewellery rolls, decorated flowerpots) for sale at the Church Fete Craft Stall.  Patterns, kindly donated materials and advice and instruction will be available. Tea/coffee is included.  Continue reading

As part of the Neighbourhood Plan process, the Steering Committee commissioned an independent group of villagers led by Mike Wynne-Jones to produce a character assessment of the village.

Neighbourhood Plan Open Meeting – Friday 17th June

Residents of Long Wittenham are invited to an open meeting in the Village Hall on Friday 17th June at 7:30pm to discuss the final draft of the Neighbourhood Plan.

The Neighbourhood Plan is nearing completion and the Steering Committee has called the meeting to get the residents’ views on the final plan before it is submitted for approval.

It will also be an opportunity to meet Chris Brotherton of Thomas Homes, who has been appointed by the Parish Council to help plan the housing and hub development.  Thomas Homes specialise in community projects and have recently designed a new village hall for Marcham.

Queen’s Birthday Celebrations – Reminder

Don’t forget to get that red, white and blue bunting down from your attic today so that that you can bedeck your dwelling to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday.

The children of the village will be celebrating in patriotic style at the Royal Tea Party in the Royal Gardens of The Plough Public House, on Saturday between 2.30pm and 4.00pm.
