Crafters wanted for Village Fete

Be prepared to be wowed by the arrival of a brand new stall at our annual Church Fete on Monday 29th August.

“Crafted with Love” will be a stall selling beautiful hand crafted gifts made by the generous & talented villagers of Long Wittenham & surrounding areas.

Would you be willing to make & donate?  We are looking for seamstresses, knitters, crocheters, painters, card makers, candle makers, potters, jewellers, photographers, wood workers, flower crafters, anyone really that can make, create & donate.

Earth Trust Centre – Public Exhibition

Earth_Trust_LogoWould you like to find out about plans to improve the visitor facilities at the Earth Trust Centre?  An informal exhibition will be held in The Fison Barn at the centre from Wednesday 1st to Wednesday 8th June 2016.  All are welcome.

If you are unable to attend, the exhibition boards will also displayed on the Earth Trust website nearer the time.

Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations – 11th/12th June 2016

Tubs, hanging baskets, flower beds etc. can all be festooned. For added fun, why not make a wreath for your front door, drape your house in bunting and make a Scarecrow Queen complete with crown?

Bachport Meeting Report

Villagers Back Anti-Quarry Fight

Almost 100 people packed into Clifton Hampden village hall (April 20) to hear why a huge sand and gravel quarry should not be developed on Green Belt land near the village.

The anti-quarry group Bachport – Burcot and Clifton Hampden for the Protection of the River Thames – outlined its case to the public as pressure grows on Oxfordshire County Council to reject the application by Hills Quarry Products.

Night-time closure of road to Clifton Hampden – 21st to 25th April

A reminder that the road from Long Wittenham to Clifton Hampden is to be closed for up to three nights between Thursday 21st and Monday 25th April 2016 to enable BT to carry out overhead cabling works.

The road closures will start at 9pm in the evening and last through to 6am the next morning.

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and those residents within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works.

Rogation Sunday – 1st May

Rogation Sunday is the traditional day for agricultural communities to ask God to bless crops that are being sown and to bless us with a good harvest later in the year.

You are all invited to join us for 10am at St Mary’s Church and then, weather permitting, around a small area of the village before returning to Church for the conclusion of our service and a hot drink.

We would recommend that you wear appropriate footwear for walking on Fieldside.
