OCC Budget Consultation

On 14th February 2023, Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) will meet to agree its budget for the next financial year.

The council is facing a significant funding shortfall of at least £44 million in 2023-24.  It is asking residents, businesses and others for their views on its budget proposals. Continue reading

Primary School Applications

The Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) School Admissions Team has asked the Parish Council to inform parents and carers of children born between 1st September 2018 and 31st August 2019 that they need to apply for a primary school place.

New Noticeboard

Residents at the western end of the village will be pleased to hear that the noticeboard at the end of concrete Fieldside has been replaced.

The original noticeboard was donated by the WI over twenty years ago, and it was showing its age and was very rickety. Continue reading

Village History Group

The November meeting of the village history group will be on Monday 21st November at 8pm in the Village Hall.

The speaker will be Jane Card with a colourful talk: “When is a crest not a crest? When it’s a coat of arms. – A little local heraldry!”

Speed Surveys

The Parish Council has been informed by Oxfordshire County Council Highways that the speed surveys scheduled to start tomorrow (16th November) will take place on the Little Wittenham Road and on the road between the village and Clifton Hampden.

These surveys are designed to determine if the current speed limits on these roads near the village can be extended beyond their current boundaries. Continue reading

Wittenhams Honour War Dead

More than forty people gathered at the village war memorial at 11am on Remembrance Day to honour fourteen men who gave their lives in the First World War.

Children from the primary school paid tribute to five of the soldiers named on the war memorial by reading out short histories of the men.  The service was taken by the vicar of Long Wittenham, Revd Canon Paul Wignall. Continue reading
