Recycling Centres Petition

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has proposed a number of changes to how local recycling centres are run.

The Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner, Matthew Barber, is concerned that the changes, if left unchallenged, will lead to an increase in waste crime and fly-tipping.

The proposed changes are:

  • Reducing the hours that recycling centres are open
  • Reducing the number of days they are open (possibly from 7 to 5)
  • Imposing checks to prove that you live in Oxfordshire
  • Making more vehicle times subject to registering for a permit
  • Reducing the number of times people with permits can use the sites from 12 to 6 each year
  • Banning horseboxes
  • Banning any vehicles with sign writing or business logos on them all together

The commissioner has started a petition opposing these changes and you can add your name on the commissioner’s website.

One Response to Recycling Centres Petition

  1. Ann Tomline says:

We should be opening more recycle places not less. Residents pay Council Tax and many wonder what services we actually get for the money paid.
Many Countries eg Australia have a free collection of large items or unwanted, organised by districts and a lorry collects at mid- day but before that neighbours or others can take anything they can use. This is real recycling and stops fly tipping .
