Do we still have a choice or are they becoming compulsory?
Hi Sally, water meters are not compulsory for everyone in the UK, but they are mandatory in specific circumstances, such as for new builds and in areas of water scarcity.

Hi Sally (and anyone else considering a water meter)
We changed to having a meter installed when we arrived in the village (30+ years ago) and at that time it it our water bill by 50% (yes, in HALF!).
Once installed you cannot revert to NOT having a meter but, in general, if there are fewer persons living in the house than the number of bedrooms, then you are likely to save money. This does however depend on how profligate you are in your water use!
