OCC Budget Consultation 2022/23

Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) is inviting residents to take part in its budget consultation 2022/23.

This year, the council is proposing investments in priority areas and savings.  It is consulting people on what is known now, but the situation may change as more detail is known about the financial support available to the council from government.

Planning Application

The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application at Mallard Reach, High Street, Long Wittenham, is for a  proposed extension and change of use from carport and plant room outbuilding to a study, gym and utility area, and a proposed new oak timber carport and shed in lieu of dilapidated sheds.

Didcot Road Closure – 12th to 14th December

The Parish Council has been advised by the Network Management team at Oxfordshire County Council that a temporary road closure will apply to a section of Didcot Road whilst new water connection works are carried out.

The closure will operate from Sunday 12th December 2021 up to and including Tuesday 14th December 2021.  The road will be open when not in use.

Fuel Poverty Awareness Day

National Energy Action (NEA) has asked the Parish Council to publicize that today (3rd December) is Fuel Poverty Awareness Day.

NEA is the national fuel poverty charity that works across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to tackle the root causes of fuel poverty and supports those experiencing it to be able to live in a warm and safe home.

Many people living in fuel poverty will struggle this winter; for some it could be fatal. Continue reading

Father Christmas at The Plough

A reminder that the Pre-School has arranged for Father Christmas to be at The Plough Inn between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday 11th December for a ‘meet & greet’.

The bar will be open with mulled wine and mince pies, and everyone is invited to come along for some Christmas cheer.

Beware Dodgy Builders

Residents are being warned by Oxfordshire County Council’s trading standards to be wary of leaflets offering driveway or roofing repairs after some property owners were charged for additional, unnecessary work.

Business Grants

Grants are available from South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) to help businesses that have been severely affected by Covid-19 restrictions to get through the Winter months.

Local businesses can now apply for a grant of up to £15,000 to help to keep them going through the quieter trading months.  The funds could help businesses to become more resilient and will help to create a more sustainable local economy as we recover from the impact on the pandemic. Walking in Nature

Earth Trust has asked the Parish Council to make residents aware of a series of mindful walks at three of its beautiful greenspaces.  Walks are run by an Earth Trust tutor and supported by its volunteers.

NDP Revisions Completed

The Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) has finally been revised, and has been re-submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) this week.
