Local businesses can now apply for a grant of up to £15,000 to help to keep them going through the quieter trading months. The Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) has finally been revised, and has been re-submitted to South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) this week.
Over two years ago, Historic England raised objections to the NDP as it stood and their objections were insurmountable without a lot more work. Sir Martin Wood, who launched the world’s first scanning technology and founded the environmental group the Earth Trust based at Little Wittenham, has died. He was ninety-four.
A visionary engineer, Sir Martin started Oxford Instruments with his wife Audrey, developing and marketing the world’s first superconducting magnets. These were soon in great demand for scientific equipment, notably in the development of MRI scanning technology. Continue reading

More than £1,500 was collected in Long and Little Wittenham for the annual Poppy Appeal for the Royal British Legion.
Eight collectors toured the two villages and there were collection boxes in The Plough Inn and The Vine and Spice, the Athletics Club in Bodkin’s Field and the Primary School. The Parish Council donated £50 to the appeal.

Carols by Candlelight return to the Barley Mow pub garden on Saturday 18th December, starting at 6pm. There will be early evening carols sung by the Didcot Divas Choir and they will be supported by the Abbey Brass Band from Abingdon.
