SODC Local Plan Petition

Residents will be aware that the Planning Inspector found South Oxfordshire District Council’s (SODC) local plan ‘sound’.  The plan was devised by the Council’s previous Conservative administration.

After winning the election in 2019, by campaigning against the plan, the Lib Dem/Green coalition running South Oxfordshire voted to scrap  it, in part because six of the seven strategic sites are on Green Belt land. Continue reading

Be Considerate of Other Residents

A resident has asked the Parish Council to remind people to be considerate of neighbours when lighting garden bonfires.

As we enter the time of year when many residents may wish to burn leaves and other garden waste, the council asks that you think about the impact this may have on neighbouring properties.

Become a Road “Super User”

Oxfordshire residents are being urged to take on ‘super’ powers to help enable faster fixing of potholes, damaged kerbing and drains, through a county council initiative that is now being more widely rolled out following many successfully pilots.

For a number of years Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has been using Fix My Street to enable residents and its own staff to report problems on the roads and to give updates on progress. Continue reading

Parish Councillor Resigns

Long Wittenham parish councillor Ian Penberth has resigned because of work and family commitments.  He says a combination of business, family and health issues have conspired to bring about his decision.

In his letter of resignation he said needed a break from parish council work to avoid distraction from other more pressing commitments.  However, he has not closed the door completely on village affairs, saying: “I will remain interested in our local issues and hope to make contributions where and when I can.” Continue reading

Bonfire Night Postponed

Residents will be disappointed, but probably not surprised to hear that the village’s very popular annual bonfire night has been postponed, owing to the Covid-19 crisis.

Jenny Caw, who heads up the team that organises the event, said “We delayed the decision to postpone as long as we could, but the current guidelines for outdoor events would make it impossible to run it as we would wish, and it is unlikely that conditions will have changed by November.” Continue reading

Electric Blanket Testing

For the past twenty years, Oxfordshire Trading Standards has provided free electric blanket testing for residents who have taken them to a test centre in their area.  Unfortunately, this is not possible this year owing to Coronavirus.

However, testing is still available, but with a different method.  Trading Standards will collect blankets from homes, take them to be tested and then return them the same day.  A plastic bag and label will be posted prior to collection. Continue reading

Waste And Recycling Collections

A reminder that because of the August Bank Holiday, waste and recycling collections will change this week.

Grey bin and food collections will be a day later than usual on Friday.
