The Parish Council has been advised by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) of a new planning application within the village.

The application is for a proposed single storey rear extension at Vincent House, High Street, Long Wittenham.

SODC Local Plan Update

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) submitted its Local Plan 2034 to the Secretary of State on Friday 29th March 2019 for independent examination.  The online hearing sessions began on 14th July 2020 and closed on 7th of August 2020.

The Planning Inspector has now sent the council a letter, which sets out his preliminary conclusions on the key matters that arose during the examination.

Help Protect Green Spaces This Bank Holiday Weekend

Earth Trust has launched a campaign, Love It, Look After It, to encourage those enjoying green spaces this Summer to help look after them as well

The charity, which cares for hundreds of hectares of farmland and community green spaces in towns including woodland, wetlands and wildflower meadows, has seen visitor numbers dramatically increase this year due to the pandemic. Continue reading

Village Map Updated

The Village Map which hangs outside the Village Hall has been updated.  The 1.18 mtr x 0.84 mtr laminated map details street and property names to aid visitors and delivery companies and has an index with grid references.

Oxfordshire Rural Services Survey Report

Back in February, the Parish Council was asked by Community First Oxfordshire to participate in the first Oxfordshire Rural Services Survey with rural parishes, towns and peripheral urban communities.  The survey was designed to gather information on services and facilities in these communities along with qualitative questions on strengths and challenges.

County Rejects Bridleway Status

In a process which has taken seven years, Oxfordshire County Council has rejected an application from the Parish Council to change the status of a footpath in the village into a bridleway.

In June 2013 the Parish Council applied to the County Council for a change of status of the footpath along Northfield Lane which leads on to the river and joins the Thames Footpath.  Northfield Lane is a hard surface but at the entrance to Northfield Farm the route is grass all the way to the river. Lorry Driver Fined for Weight Limit Breach

The driver of a heavy goods lorry who ignored the weight restriction through the village has been fined, and it’s thanks to an alert villager who took a picture on a mobile phone.

The driver was travelling through the village in October last year.  He appeared at Oxford Magistrates Court in August and pleaded guilty to breaching the weight restriction.  He also made representations concerning his financial circumstances. Continue reading

Lady Grove Closure Update

The Parish Council has now had confirmation from Network Management at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) that the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for the closure of the B4016 Lady Grove will now operate from 31st August 2020 up to and including 21st December 2020 and is a 24 hour closure.

Bus Timetable Changes

As schools prepare to return in September a new bus timetable for services between Long Wittenham, Didcot and Wallingford has been announced by Going Forward Buses.

From Wednesday 2nd September there will be two return journeys from Wallingford to Didcot on both Mondays and Wednesdays.  Some of the timings vary slightly by four minutes depending on whether the service runs via Berinsfield or Continue reading
