Letter to EU Citizens

South Oxfordshire District Council has asked the Parish Council to distribute a letter written by the leader of the district council to residents who are EU nationals from countries outside of the UK.

The letter explains what affected residents need to do to remain in the UK after Brexit and signposts them to further information.

WI Craft Day – 23rd November

Wittenham WI will be holding another of its fantastic Craft Days on Saturday 23rd November.

The day will run from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm at the village hall.  Please take your own lunch.  You can either take your own craft items to make, or join Jenny Garlick as she provides instructions and materials for you to make a Christmas Tree Decoration (similar to the one shown below).

Housing Plans Submitted

Vanderbilt Homes has submitted the first of its ‘reserved matters’ planning applications for the housing development on the corner of Fieldside and Didcot Road.  This application provides details of the overall layout of the site and the type and mix of houses that will be built.

Bonfire Night Goes Off With a Bang

High winds and rain failed to dampen spirits at the 11th annual bonfire and fireworks display in Ward’s Field last Saturday evening.

More than three hundred and fifty people braved the poor weather and were treated to a spectacular display.  Large, orange flames from the bonfire licked the night sky and that was followed by a twenty minute cascade of colour from multi-coloured pyrotechnics staged by Illusion Fireworks.  Last year the company from Wallingford topped the national British Fireworks Continue reading

Village Bonfire Night

Just a quick reminder that Village Bonfire Night is tomorrow – Saturday 2nd November.  Advance entry wristbands are still available today at Clifton Hampden Post Office and some will also be available to purchase at the event on the night.

The gates to Ward’s Field will open at 6pm, with the Guy Fawkes Competition at 6.30pm, and bonfire being lit soon after.  The firework display will start at approximately 7pm. Continue reading

Pumpkin Collections

Hallowe’en usually means lots of leftover pumpkins at the start of November.  South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has announced that any pumpkins that can’t be used in cooking or composting will be collected by the bin crews if left next to the food waste bin on the appropriate collection day.

The pumpkins, like other food waste recycling, will be taken to a processing centre in Oxfordshire where they will be transformed into fertiliser and green electricity. Continue reading

Archaeological Digs

This Autumn, Earth Trust is embarking on five months of excavations ahead of its Gateway project to develop visitor facilities. It will be working with archaeologists, DigVentures, throughout November 2019 to March 2020.

Wristbands, Cakes and Guys

Today is the last day to buy Bonfire Night entry wristbands from the school office as it will be closed from Monday 28th November for half term.  You will still be able to buy them from Clifton Hampden Post Office next week, or on the evening itself, but don’t delay, as once the wristbands are gone, there are no more.
