Lunch Club Tea Party

About forty residents gathered on the warm, sunny afternoon of Tuesday 27th August for the annual Long Wittenham Lunch Club tea party.

Members of the club usually meet on the third Thursday of each month for lunch in the village hall but once a year, Bill and Sylvia Harrison host this much anticipated event in their beautiful garden.

Didcot Garden Town

As Long Wittenham is located within the Didcot Garden Town area, residents can now sign up to receive regular updates on progress to turn the vision of the Didcot Garden Town delivery plan into real life projects. The delivery plan can be found here.

By signing up, you could help to shape over sixty individual projects.

Cycling Champion Appointed

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has appointed its first ever Cycling Champion to help and encourage people to travel by bike, and she is our own District Councillor Sam Casey-Rerhaye.

Cllr Casey-Rerhaye will work with local organisations, communities, other councils and transport bodies to make sure there is wider access to cycling paths across the districts.

Harvest Supper – Saturday 5th October

The Friends of St Mary’s Church Long Wittenham will be holding the annual Harvest Supper at the Village Hall on Saturday 5th October starting at 7pm.

Village Litter Pick – 28th September

Would you like your village to be a clean and tidier place?  Then come along to the Village Litter Pick on Saturday 28th September at the Village Hall from 10am till noon.

You will be provided with Hi Viz jackets, gloves, rubbish bags and litter picking tool.  You choose an area of the village that you would like to “litter pick”.  The rubbish is then returned to the village hall and you will be rewarded with tea and biscuits plus the pleasure of knowing you have had a part in Continue reading

Over 50s Char & Chat

Age UK Oxfordshire has asked the Parish Council to let residents know about a new initiative which is intended to give older people a chance to meet and socialise.

Come along to The Plough Inn on the dates below between 11am and 12noon for a hot drink and friendly conversation.  You may want to stay on for a bite to eat afterwards or take advantage of the wonderful surroundings and go for a stroll. Continue reading

Countryside Fires

We have been asked to highlight the dangers of lighting fires in the countryside.

Last week, a resident called the fire service out to attend a camp fire that had been started in the woods between Poplars Park and the river.  The fire had taken hold in a tree and the firemen said that if the wind had caught it, it might well have spread.

Cycle By-Pass Lanes on High Street

Oxfordshire County Council is seeking the views of residents on proposals – as part of the ongoing Science Vale Cycling Network improvement works – to create cycle ‘bypass’ lanes in the existing traffic calming build-outs located to the north and south of the school access on the High Street.
