Redcoats at The Plough

The Mikron Theatre Company will be performing this Sunday (28th) at The Plough Inn starting at 3.30pm.  This year’s show is all about the Butlins Redcoats and as ever, the show is free, although the cast will be going around the audience with a hat to collect voluntary contributions.

South Oxfordshire Local Plan Update

Councillors in South Oxfordshire have agreed to take a little more time to consider options for the district’s Local Plan following a vote at a Council meeting last week.

Councillors want to find effective and suitable ways to ensure the plan takes into consideration feedback from local residents, who have raised concerns about the emerging plan’s approach to providing land for housing in the district. Continue reading

Charity Afternoon Tea – 25th July

Women’s Institutes across Oxfordshire are being encouraged to hold an afternoon tea in aid of Breast Cancer in July.

The Wittenhams WI will be doing their bit by holding an event from 2.30pm until 4.00pm on Thursday 25th July at The Old Stables, Fieldside (Didcot Road end of Fieldside Track) to raise funds for the local Breast Cancer Charity, Against Breast Cancer.

Ladygrove Road Closed

The Parish Council has been advised that the Ladygrove Road has been closed.  The closure is due to a ruptured gas main.

The road has been closed in both directions between the Hadden Hill roundabout and Sires Hill.  This will cause issues to peak traffic so please allow extra time for for your journey around this area. Continue reading

Quarry Plans Rejected Again

The plans for the quarry near Clifton Hampden have been thrown out by Oxfordshire County Council’s planning committee again.  But the company promoting the development, Hills Quarry Products, says it’s likely to appeal the decision.

St Mary’s Bells Appeal

Residents may be aware that a project has been underway for some time to raise funds to refurbish and re-tune the bells at St Mary’s Church.  The last time such works were carried out was in 1923 and they are desperately in need of some TLC.

The tower at St Mary’s contains six bells, five of which were founded by Lester and Pack in 1765.  The ring of five bells apparently came from an original ring of ten bells from another church. Continue reading
