School Care Extended

Long Wittenham Primary School has extended its after-hours activities including football coaching sessions with staff from Oxford United.

The school has launched a new child care provision from 3.20pm to 6.30pm provided by Get Active Sports, a private company which operates in schools in Oxfordshire and other parts of the country. Continue reading

Views Sought on Play Area Improvements

The Parish Council would like to hear the views of families living around Westfield Road on what improvements they would like to see at the small children’s play area.

Waste And Recycling Collections

Residents are reminded that because of the Early May Bank Holiday, waste and recycling collections will be different this week.

Green, food and garden waste bin collections will be a day later than usual on Friday.

Playground Safeguarded

Acklings playground has been granted Asset of Community Value (ACV) status by South Oxfordshire District Council.  The Parish Council nominated the playground which has been used by residents for many years.

The land is owned by St John’s College to which the Parish Council pays an annual rent.  ACV status means that if the college wants to sell the land in the future the village would be given the opportunity to buy it for the community.  ACVs were Continue reading

Pirates In Church

St Mary’s church resounded to the strains of Gilbert and Sullivan last Saturday evening as Opera Anywhere performed one of the most popular works in the canon of English comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance or The Slave of Duty.  The audience of over one hundred was enthusiastic in its appreciation of the show.

Long Wittenham Goes Green

Long Wittenham’s new district councillor is Green Party activist Sam Casey-Rerhaye from Culham.  In yesterday’s district council elections Mrs Casey-Rerhaye, who chairs Culham Parish Council, beat Conservative candidate Fiona Ardern from Toot Baldon with a comfortable majority.  She cantered home with 956 votes well ahead of Mrs Ardern who polled 347.

Church Open Morning

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary Long Wittenham with St Peter Little Wittenham invite residents to an ‘open morning’ next Saturday 4th May 2019 between 10am and 1pm at St Mary’s Church to celebrate the opening of the new multi access toilet extension and servery area.

Come and enjoy coffee and cake and catch up with friends and neighbours.  There will also be some great plants for sale  All are welcome.
