Charity Treasure Hunt

Come along to the Treasure Hunt in aid of Beagle Welfare on 20th May at The Athletics Club, Bodkins Field, OX14 4QW from 10:30am.

The Treasure Hunt is a walkies of about 3 miles, with clues to solve along the way  The team with the most correct answers in the fastest time wins a £50 voucher of their choice.  Every team will receive a goody bag at the finish and there will be a prize for the best team name, so get your thinking caps (or should that be pirate hats) on! Ascension Day Service on The Clumps

The Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt. Revd. Colin Fletcher, will be leading a service of Holy Communion to celebrate Ascension Day on the top of Wittenham Clumps on Thursday 10th May starting at 7.30pm.

Meet at St Peter’s Little Wittenham at 7pm to walk up the hill with the Bishop or park in the car park on the Wallingford side of the Clumps and walk the gentler slope to the top from there. Continue reading

May Bank Holiday Waste Bin Collection

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) is reminding householders of the usual changes to their waste collections during the week following May Bank Holiday Monday.

There will be no waste collections on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May.  Everyone’s bins will then be emptied one day later than usual for the rest of that week.  In South Oxfordshire, this is a green bin, brown bin and food waste bin collection week.

Rogation Sunday – 6th May

Rogation (from the Latin ‘rogare’ ‘to ask’) Sunday is the traditional day for agricultural communities to ask God to bless crops that are being sown and to bless us with a good harvest later in the year.

You are all invited to join the congregation at St Mary’s Church on Sunday 6th May at 9:15am for a simple breakfast and then at 9:30am visiting representative parts of the village – a workshop, a garden, the community orchard, a meadow and finally the school – with readings, prayers and hymns. SODC Announces Five Year Housing Supply

South Oxfordshire District Council has published its latest figures showing that it can now demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.

This is important because if a local planning authority cannot show that it has a five-year housing land supply, its policies with regards to residential development are regarded as out-of-date.  Where this happens, the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out a ‘presumption in favour of sustainable development’. History Group ‘Finds Washing’ Days

Following the very successful archaeological dig at the Sylva Wood Centre in September last year, the Long Wittenham History Group will be hosting two ‘finds washing’ sessions in the Village Hall on Sunday 6th May and Monday 7th May between 2pm and 5pm on both days.

You are welcome to come and help or just watch.  Responsible children are also welcome.

Come to the May Fayre

Don’t forget that this year’s Long Wittenham School Fayre will take place on Saturday 12th May between noon and 3:00pm.

There will be Maypole dancing and the crowning of the May Queen as well as a Grand National race, traditional games & stalls, the church plant sale, beer tent, barbecue and lots more.

Long Wittenham Fun Run 2018

Start stretching those muscles in preparation for the Long Wittenham Fun Run which, this year, will take place on Sunday 10th June starting at 11am.

As usual, the start and finish will be at The Plough where there will also be a barbecue, pub fayre and beer gardens.
